Let’s keep close track of what I’ve said – I sent this to the Chicago Tribune back when I thought the Cubs would win last year –
Comment in the Chicago Tribune (October 16, 2015)
Yes, the Cubs have been cursed – but not by a black cat or a billy goat. The Cubs have been cursed by the only One who CAN curse – the One who said: “I will bless those who bless you; I will curse those who curse you.” Yahweh said those words to Abraham, about 4000 years ago. The Self-Existent One’s promise was to, specifically, His covenant people, Israel – the descendants of the tribe of Judah, His Chosen people, the Jews.
I am convinced that Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (or Israel), has cursed the Cubs for three primary reasons: their mistreatment of Mordecai Peter Centennial “Three-Finger” Brown (by cutting him on his Hebrew birthday – he was born on 1 Cheshvan 1876; he was cut by the Cubs on 1 Cheshvan 1912); their disrespect – and the disrespect of the fans at Wrigley – for Babe Ruth in the 1932 World Series (which culminated in the Babe’s Called Shot at Wrigley); and their disrespect for someone who was blessed by the Lord, Hank Greenberg – the vicious Anti-Semitism of both the Cub players and fans at Wrigley in both the 1935 and 1945 World Series. That was “The Curse of the Hebrew Hammer” – and the Cubs have been in exile for 70 years for that.
That curse was doubled down when Sandy Koufax (who, like Greenberg, is Jewish) threw the greatest game in baseball history against the Cubs on September 9, 1965, his Perfect Game. This was “The Curse of the Koufax Cadenza.”
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, Cubs’ fans – the 107 year drought is over! The curses have been lifted! According to the will of Yahweh, the Cubs will win this year! The curses were broken by two events: the hiring of Theo Epstein (who, yes, is Jewish) as Cubs’ team president, and by Jake Arrieta’s no-hitter against the Dodgers at the very same place where “The Curse of the Koufax Cadenza” was laid. Go, Cubs, in 2015!
