The Philadelphia Eagles will win the 2016 Super Bowl. The next one… in less than two months. In February 2016…
.
Last week, I wrote this headline, when the Eagles beat the Buffalo Bills 23 – 20 on a last minute field-goal. Their head coach is Rex Ryan, son of Buddy Ryan, former Eagles head coach:
.
Headline:
.
Bowl-Bound Birds Bash Brady, Belichick and Boston’s Best, then Boldly Beat Buffalo Bills Behind Bradford’s Bombs
.
Or, Better…
.
Bowl-Bound Birds Barely Beat Buffalo Bills Bossed By Buddy’s Boy Behind Bradford’s Bombs, after Badly Bashing ‘Boys, and Boldly Bursting Balloon of Brady, Belichick and Boston’s Best! “Ban B-Eagles’ Big Bone!” Bellow Broad Street Bands!
Now, I know what you’re thinking – a lot of things, actually. Well, I don’t believe in luck – only the Providence of Elohim, the one true Deity – so I won’t say “Do I feel lucky?” Once again – it’s not luck; luck does not exist. I trust in the One who controls every event in the universe, who speaks to us through the world we see. And He does speak to us in sports.
.
I must preface this by saying I don’t know nearly enough about NFL history to trace the hand of Elohim as He arranges for events to happen. I only know that He is in as much control of sports history as much as He is in control of world events. And whatever happens has everything to do with Him – to give Him the glory – and nothing to do with me. If it’s HIS will, the Eagle’s will win, not my will. As Amos said, I am not a prophet nor the son of a prophet (my Dad thought his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers would win the World Series in 1941… and ’47… and ’49… and ’50, when they lost to the Phillies on the last day of the season… and ’51, when they lost to the Giants on the last day of the season… and ’52… and ’53; they did win in 1955, after adding that young Jewish southpaw as a Bonus Baby to their roster… but not in ’56, when I was born… so his track record wasn’t too good). I am just an earthen vessel in His hands. I am just a slave seeking to do my Master’s will. He is always in ultimate control. (Another warning: Please do not be like Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5, or Simon Magnus a little later in Acts, who tried to turn a profit using the power of the Holy Spirit … it didn’t turn out well for either of them).
.
“OK, feller – wait just ONE MINUTE! Aren’t you the gentleman who picked the PHILLIES to win the World Series in 2015? It’s over – the Royals won!”
.
Yes, that was me. And I take nothing back – I did indeed, even into September, have the Phillies winning in 2015.
.
“So why should we listen to you now? The Phillies were the worst team in Baseball!”
.
OK, do you remember WHY I picked the Phillies?
.
“Because you’re an idiot?”
.
No – and we’re not discussing Creation and evolution, so you can drop the ad hominem attack. Anyway, I picked the Phillies for two reasons (still posted… I have never pulled anything I’ve ever written down): one, because it would have been a miracle – not that I would get the glory for that, but that Elohim would be glorified, just like He was glorified when Israel won against overwhelming odds. And, second: because the Phillies (believe it or not) had been a blessed team because they hired a prominent Jewish individual – their General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. They were blessed in 2008 when he was Assistant GM; they had been, for the most part, a successful team up until last year.
.
“Well, what happened? He was still the GM.”
.
Yeah, he WAS the GM. By Randy Miller | NJ Advance Media for NJ co

. Ruben Amaro Jr. had a long run as Phillies general manager that started with a lot of highs and then included some real lows … one that ended with his firing on Thursday.
Amaro was promoted from assistant right after the Phillies won the 2008 World Series, then was in charge for a seven-year run in which the franchise sunk a little each season … a run that ended with the 54-86 club owning the worst record in baseball late into the 2015 season.(New Jersey.com, September 10, 2015)
.
And not only that: they honored someone else (who shall remain nameless) whom they should not have, with a baseball card of himself.
.
And then I picked the Cubs to win, remember? Well, I also have written extensively on that previously. I do stand by my statement, however, that the “Curse of the Hebrew Hammer” is over – since the disgraceful, disrespectful treatment the Cubs and their fans gave to American World War II hero and blessed Jewish player, Hank Greenberg, during the 1945 Word Series (after the Anti-Semitic treatment the Cubs and the Wrigley fans gave Hank in 1935 in THAT World Series). The Cubs were exiled from the World Series for 70 years, just like the people of Judah were exiled to Babylon for 70 years – that’s why, even though the Curses are completed, they didn’t win (the counting started with the 1946 Series; it will end in 2016). The Phillies’ “Curse of the Flying Dutchman” was over in 1979, but they didn’t win until the next year, 1980.
.
And – yes, I did see the Eagles play on Thanksgiving. And I said the Lions had the Turkeys for Dinner. And I also said that the Eagles looked like a college team – a BAD college team – against a pro team.
.
But, that’s just the point – it HAS to be a miracle if they win, right? Just like the Phillies would have been. It won’t be much of a sign from Elohim if they were EXPECTED to win, would it?
.
I might even watch the Super Bowl this year! I won’t watch the halftime show (I have no clue who they got to do it, but I don’t have any hope for anyone worthwhile. Maybe they’ll surprise me… don’t bet on anything, but ESPECIALLY don’t bet on that!)
PS Did you notice, the part where I quoted Randy Miller of NJ .com? He said that Ruben Amaro, Jr. had a “seven-year run” – from the Shemitah season of 2008 to the Shemitah season of 2015. I didn’t write that- about the seven year run!! And did you know that the Shemitah year of 5775 on the Jewish calendar ended on September 12? Did the Phillies know what they were doing when they fired him just before the end of the Shemitah? No. But Yahweh does!
