Here are some real questions from atheists that I have responded to.
Answers to Atheists:
Here are some Creationist answers to actual atheists’ Questions:
Atheist #1: “Evolution is genuine science not just a theory .
You don’t want to believe doesn’t mean it not true .
Joe: Neither the Creation nor the evolution paradigms are theories – can you describe for me an experiment to test whether evolution happened in the past? Can we roll tape on the earth as it was 300 million years ago? No – all we can do is speculate. We can look at events happening in the world today and reverse them (how far back?), but that is not scientific proof. Just because you don’t want to believe in Creation doesn’t mean it’s not true…
Atheist #2: “So evolution can’t be proven because it happened in the past. Yet you believe in a book filled with stories from the past. What’s the difference? Seems like a double standard to me.
Btw unlike the bible evolution is supported by a lot of evidence”
Joe: Nothing in the past can be “proved” by the scientific method. A valid theory must be testable. How do you test a past event? To prove events in the past, we use Historical Testimony: people were there and told us about it. The true narratives in the Bible have been verified many times by HT and by data we can discover in the present. For example, we can find a city mentioned in the Bible that was thought to not exist. Finding modern proof doesn’t prove the truth, but it supports its veracity.
Atheist #3: “But we have evidence of common ancestry, it’s in our genes, it’s in the fossil record, it’s in the age of the cosmos. All independantly verified data indicates that we share a common ancestor with all organisms on this planet. Additionally this would not be possible without a big bang. Whether you want to say your god was the cause of all of it is inconsequential (until data can prove otherwise) but no data supports the literal genesis.”
Joe: Just because all creatures on earth have DNA doesn’t mean they’re directly related. Of course, all HUMANS have common ancestors, but by what mechanism can we trace our genetic history back to other species? Similarity doesn’t prove genetic relationship. Now, if we could do an experiment where we change one kind of organism into a different kind of organism, we would have some proof. But a fruit fly is a fruit fly… a human is a human… a dog is a dog… a pine tree is a pine tree…
We have a common Creator – God. He, in His infinite wisdom, used the same basic molecules (DNA, proteins, etc). But the DNA of an earthworm makes an earthworm; the DNA of a turnip makes a turnip. There can be varieties (God is much more creative than we are!), but there are genetic limits that can’t be crossed. If God created, we don’t need a big bang. The scientific data fits my creation paradigm very nicely. I have no test to prove creation, but I do have some good Historical Testimony.
Atheist #4: “Well they couldn’t very well follow the other commandment to go forth and be fruitful and replenish the earth if they stayed in the garden now could they? So it was a catch-22 no matter what. God set them up for failure. Good thing this story is complete and utter bulls— isn’t it? ;)”
Joe: They weren’t told that they had to stay in one spot – I’m sure they could have gone anywhere (I believe the continents were joined together before the Flood). The whole earth was a tropical paradise. They only had one restriction: not to eat from that tree. It wasn’t the tree, really, it was the fact that God told them not to eat of it and they did. And then they DID know evil, because it is simply disobeying God. Clever way with words, there – how can you be so certain it ISN’T true? (I hate it when people are JUST SO CERTAIN about something!)
Atheist #5: “If only people still lived to be 900 years old like they did in the bible, we could ask their opinion”
Joe: Absolutely! I’m sure you could learn a lot in 900 years! Unfortunately, they apparently learned a lot of evil – God had to send the Flood to wipe almost all of them out! I’m glad we don’t live that long in these corrupt bodies – I groan for my resurrection body that won’t be burdened by sin.
Atheist #6: “The Catholic Church wanted to suppress the people, because the people was where the riches came from. The Vatican has always been corrupt to the very core, giving it’s the earliest growth of western christianity it’s hard to see past that corruption and greed with other branches of the church. Plus, the majority of the Catholics’ ideologies were “borrowed” from Roman pagan beliefs and various eastern religions at the time.
How can you prove to me that the Bible is the genuine word of the Lord?”
Joe: I couldn’t agree more with your first two sentences – AMEN – the Catholic church, as an institution has been corrupt from the beginning. It’s as corrupt as ever – don’t let the current pope fool you. The Scriptures say that the devil goes around as an “angel of light” (Second Corinthians 11: 14 says “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”) Look to Israel for the truth – they’ve referred to this pope by that very name! After that, you go off the tracks – how are the Christian doctrines “borrowed” from Roman pagan beliefs. That may be true of many specifically Catholic practices (like the worship of Mary), but not genuine Christian doctrines. Why would the Romans want a Jewish deliverer being elevated as a god? Jesus is the fulfillment of Messianic prophesies in the Hebrew Scriptures. His sacrificial death by crucifixion was mocked by the Romans of the First Century – this would-be Messiah dying in such an undignified, bloody way? Any counterfeiting by Satan came later, then were said to have come earlier. Also – why would the Romans benefit by the true gospel – Jesus said:” Repent (admit that you are a vile sinner, a wretch who deserves nothing but eternal execution) and believe the gospel (accept as true the good news that “Him who knew no sin, BECAME sin for US, so that we may become the righteousness of God”). To be a true Christian, all you have to do accept the gift of grace that has been offered to us. And, if you believe that God, the Father raised Him from the dead (God’s Amen to Jesus’ It is finished) you are truly saved! And because I believe Jesus (in Hebrew, Yeshua ha Meshiach) rose bodily from the dead, He was who He claimed to be (the only Son of God, that is, God Himself in human flesh). Therefore, since He believed the Bible to be the Word of God (He IS the Living Word of God!), I can believe it, too.
Atheist #7: “still have not heard why i should take your possibly minor psychic break. your already existing wish too believe that witch is not in evidence and the work of ppl you might for some reason respect.
you shown reasons why you think its true, but how do you ‘know’ its true unless you have some prove too show its true or at the very least reasonable too think its true?
i`m not saying it could not be true, there is just no prove for it”
Joe: Did you ever wonder why the Resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, was the central topic of the apostles’ preaching in the book of Acts and in the epistles of Paul, Peter, James, Jude, John, and the writer of Hebrews? Why did the fact that Jesus, who was executed by the best professionals at doing that of their day – the Roman Army – had risen from the dead matter so much to the early church? It’s because God (Abba Father) knows that evidence is importance. He never asks us to believe without proof. The Resurrection of Jesus was evidence – incontrovertible proof that Jesus was who He said He was – the Anointed One of Israel, the Messiah, the King of the Jews, but most importantly, God in human flesh. By raising Him bodily from the dead, Yahweh was showing us that His sacrifice, to pay the price to forgive the sins of all who would ever believe in Him, was accepted – it was enough. Jesus was also fulfilling the Spring Jewish holy days – He fulfilled Passover (Peshach) by being the ultimate, unblemished (by sin) Passover Lamb. He fulfilled the Feast of Unleavened Bread by actually suffering a death He didn’t deserve and being buried in a rich man’s tomb (to fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy) for three days. He fulfilled The Feast of Firstfruits by being the “firstfruits” of those who would perish – because He rose from the dead, we, His followers, will someday rise from the dead with glorified bodies, too. Because He conquered death, so can we. And He fulfilled the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost or Shavout) when His Holy Spirit was poured out on the Day of Pentecost and the church was born. The miracles that were done were also evidence that what the apostles were saying was true – to prove that all their claims, and all the claims of Jesus, were true. On the Day of Pentecost, only 50 days after Jesus had died, all it would have taken to kill this new movement was to produce the still-dead corpse of Jesus and parade it through the streets of Jerusalem. They didn’t do it… because they couldn’t do it. He wasn’t in the tomb where the Roman soldiers had been guarding Him – He was risen indeed! There are many other evidences I could point to – not only in Bible days, but now – that prove the truth of the Word of God. Jesus believed every word of the Hebrew Scriptures. He Himself was the Living Word! John started his gospel by referring to Jesus as “The Word”. If these things aren’t proof enough, I don’t know what could be.
By the way – one of the key ideas that began the long process of bringing me to faith in Jesus was what happened to the Disciples. Here are guys who all died (well, all but John, but he suffered a great deal in his long life serving the Lord) for what they knew was a lie – if Jesus hadn’t really risen from the dead. Would all of them – or any other martyr – live such difficult lives and allow themselves to be killed for something that they knew was untrue? Their steadfastness in believing in the Resurrection of Jesus is strong evidence that they were genuinely convinced that He did rise!
